HANDCRAFTED
MILLED LOGS
ABOUT MILLED LOG HOMES
“Milled log” is the term for logs cut by a machine to a uniform diameter. Most of the trees used to make a Yellowstone Log Home are cut when they are dead, standing, and dry. When a log is dry, there is a much lower chance of unexpected cracking, and warping. Air dried log homes have less settling than that of a kiln dried log home.
The most common milled log is the Swedish cope design with saddle notched corners. We also offer D-logs. Milled beams are available for roof purlins, trusses, porch posts, etc. in diameters up to 40″ and lengths to 42′ long.
An engineering improvement provides the key to the weather tight seal of the Yellowstone Log Home. We place an all weather foam between the logs before they are screwed together to provide a tight, & hidden seal.
Then, caulking or chinking is applied to the logs to aid in weather resistance.
You will find, a milled Yellowstone Log Home is so simple to erect that you may choose to build your own. If you don’t possess the house building flair, a reputable contractor in your area can build for you.
Our Swedish Cope log with the standard appearance is milled to a uniform profile. This style of log is ideal for those who desire a true log home, without the rustic features of the cabin appearance listed below. This style utilizes the saddle notch corner system. These logs are grade stamped. Sizes available: 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, and 14-inch diameters
This is the most popular profile. The majority of our customers prefer the more rustic characteristics found in the cabin appearance over those found in the standard appearance. These logs are intentionally milled to leave some bark on the surface. The bark is then draw knifed off, giving the log a more rustic appearance. These logs are grade stamped. Sizes available: 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, and 16-inch diameters.
The draw knifed appearance occurs when the entire visible portion of the log is draw knifed. This is a popular choice for those who want the handcrafted look in a milled log. Available in standard and cabin style listed above. These logs are grade stamped. Sizes available: 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, and 16-inch diameters.
The T&G D-Log has a planed smooth finish with a tongue on the top of each log that fits inside of the groove of the log that is set on top of it. The interior of the wall is flat, while the exterior of the log maintains a rounded profile. This style of log is for the customer that wants a more contemporary look & feel. This style of log utilizes the Butt & Pass corner system. These logs are grade stamped. T&GD-Logs are available in 8×8, & 8×12. Other sizes & styles are available upon request.
Rustic D-Logs are cut flat on 3 sides(the top, bottom, & inside) with a band saw. The exterior natural edge of the log is then draw knifed giving the home a rustic look. This style of home mimics many of the nations log homes dating back hundreds of years. These logs are grade stamped. Rustic D-Logs are available in 6×5, 7×7, & 8×8. Other sizes are available upon request.
HALF LOG SIDING
ABOUT HALF LOG SIDING
Half logs are, in essence, a true Swedish coped log cut in half, lengthwise. Half logs provide the exact look of true full log homes, and can be
used both internally and externally. Half logs simply attach to the 2x framing of a stick frame wall.
Some of our clients prefer the external look of a log home, but do not want the log look on the interior walls. With Half logs, this is possible! You can install half log siding over an existing stick framed home to give the home a log home look.
This was cut from a Swedish Cope wall log that has been split in half lengthwise. Half log siding looks exactly like a full log home from the outside when utilizing the saddle notched corners. Available in standard and cabin appearance. These logs are grade stamped. Sizes available: 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, and 16-inch diameters.
HANDCRAFTED LOGS
ABOUT HANDCRAFTED LOG HOMES
Handcrafted Yellowstone Log Homes tell not only the story of our company, but indeed a much bigger story, that of true American Tradition, and craft. Each handcrafted log is individually hand selected, notched, and hand hewed for an exact fit.
When every unique log is in place, the structure is inspected for it’s workmanship, and aesthetic value. Once satisfied, the crew marks and disassembles the home for shipping to your building site. Listed below are a few other reasons you should consider the warm, and unique feeling, that only a handcrafted Yellowstone Log Home can provide.
We use dead standing timbers that are cured and well seasoned for minimal shrinking and movement. We also use our industry leading fastening system, using heavy duty lag bolts to prevent excessive settlement problems.
We offer both full scribe and chink style in simple to elaborate designs, for both residential and commercial settings.
Our commitment to you as our client continues well after your handcrafted Yellowstone Log Home is on site and completed. After you have moved in, we will be glad to assist you in proper care and maintenance and answer any questions you may have.
The Full Scribe hand crafted log has a similar appearance to that of the Swedish Cope milled log. Each log is scribed & cut to fit the full length of the log below it. Every hand crafted log is individually selected, notched, & hand hewn for an exact fit. Our hand crafted division pre assembles the log structure in our yard. We then label each log & disassemble the structure for shipment. This style utilizes the saddle notched corner system. These logs are grade stamped. Full Scribe homes are available in these different average mid span diameters: 12″, 14″, 16″, and 18″.
The Chink Style hand crafted log has a round on round fit. Each log is scribed at the saddle notched corner to fit the corner notch below it. These logs have a gap where the two logs rest on each other. This gap is designed to be chinked in order to make the home weather tight. Every hand crafted log is individually selected, notched, & hand hewn for an exact fit. Our hand crafted division pre assembles the log structure in our yard. We then label each log & disassemble the structure for shipment. This style utilizes the saddle notched corner system. These logs are grade stamped.
